A “beurré” is a piece of blotting paper used to absorb excess ink when writing with a fountain pen before ballpoint pens became widespread. Around the 1960s, these were printed with advertisements on one side and distributed in France. They feature works by famous artists active at the time, such as Savignac, Morvan, and Lefort d’Opno, but even pieces by unknown artists whose names are not listed are well worth seeing. Please enjoy the world of French advertising illustrations packed onto these small pieces of paper.
